How to replace an old 2015 Bolt Remote Controller with a new 2017 one

If you have a 2015 Bolt, received through the crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, and your remote controller stopped working, then you can order a new Remote Controller and install it yourself. The new remote is not only more compact and resistant, but it also comes with a dual speed mode (beginner/expert).
When you order the new remote it will come with an already-paired receiver chip. You just need to replace the old chip inside your Bolt with the new one.
Follow this procedure to replace it:
  • As a first thing, you should lift the grip tape of Bolt. Start from the front or the back of the board and keep pulling firmly.
  • Then you need to remove the screws that hold the wooden cover using a screwdriver.
  • Once accessed the inside you will see a black PCB with the size a box of matches, that is the ESC. From one of the two short sides of the PCB, the ESC is connected to 3 big wires to the motor, from the other short side is connected with a little 3-wires plug. That is connected to the remote controller receiver. You should remove the old receiver and plug in the new one. Just be careful to keep the same color order of wires.
